Wavell Heights Local provides voice for young people at YMCA Youth Parliament
Wavell Heights local, Luka O’Brien, will take to the floor of Parliament House after being selected to represent the Nudgee Electorate at the 2018 YMCA Queensland Youth Parliament.
Member for Nudgee, Leanne Linard, said that Luka will take part in the Youth Parliament, which will see 93 young Queenslanders contribute to positive changes in their communities.
“Luka has demonstrated a commitment to the community through his volunteer work, and is passionate about leading and mentoring other local youths. I have no doubt that he will be a great representative for the young people in the Nudgee Electorate,” Ms Linard said.
“The YMCA Queensland Youth Parliament is a unique opportunity for young people like Luka to be a voice for their community, learn about Queensland’s democratic and parliamentary process, share ideas and debate bills,” Ms Linard said.
Luka will sit on the committee for Science, Information Technology and Innovation during the program, which will bring representatives together for the first time this month.
Youth Members will come together in April to form committees and discuss ideas, and return to Brisbane in September to debate their bills at Parliament House.
“I congratulate Luka for putting his hand up to represent the Nudgee Electorate in the YMCA Youth Parliament”, Ms Linard said.
“It is vital that these young Queensland leaders have a voice in the future of our state.”
