Boondall’s Laura Kenny named as finalist in Queensland Literary Awards
Member for Nudgee Leanne Linard has congratulated emerging Boondall author Laura Kenny after she was named as a finalist in the Queensland Literary Awards for 2018.
“The awards are rightly renowned among Australia’s most prestigious and to be named as a finalist is a fantastic achievement,” Ms Linard said.
“They recognise exceptional writing ability and champion new talent. Previous winners include David Malouf, Bill Wilkie and Cathy McLennan.”
Laura’s book On Either Side is one of four shortlisted for the Glendower Award for an Emerging Queensland Writer.
The winning author in the category will receive $15,000.
The Awards will be held at the State Library of Queensland on Tuesday 23 October.
Ms Linard said the writers in this year’s awards were competing for a total prize pool of $240,000.
“The Palaszczuk Government is a proud supporter of the awards,” she said.
“I wish Laura all the very best and encourage readers to discover her work for themselves. She is clearly a very talented author and it is great to see her making her mark.”
