Improved pedestrian safety for busy Boondall intersection
A well-used intersection at Boondall has been identified as a priority site for an upgrade to improve pedestrian safety.
Member for Nudgee Leanne Linard said the Sandgate Road intersection with Northumbria Road and Garozzo Street had been identified as part of a statewide initiative to improve pedestrian safety at intersections.
“The community has raised concerns with me about this busy intersection which is frequently utilised by Nudgee College students,” Ms Linard said.
“I’m pleased TMR is doing something to improve pedestrian and student safety by installing additional red-turn arrows.
“There had originally been calls for a dedicated green arrow on the side streets but TMR’s advice was that this measure would significantly increase congestion on Sandgate Road by adding extra time to light cycles.
“Red turn arrows allow motorists time to acknowledge pedestrians and give way to them so it is still a good safety outcome for this busy intersection.”
Works will start on site this month and take a few weeks to complete, weather and construction conditions permitting.
