More seats available on the Shorncliffe Line as six-car trains added
Commuters on the Shorncliffe Line will find it easier to find a seat when six-car units replace three-car trains on 24 services next week.
Member for Sandgate Stirling Hinchliffe said the upgrades would ease the potential for overcrowding on seven services a day, Monday to Thursday.
“This is great news for all those who use the Shorncliffe Line,” he said.
“From mid-December, there will be only two three-car services running on the line and they are lower patronage Friday services,” he said.
“These are permanent changes and passengers will benefit long into the future.
Member for Nudgee Leanne Linard said passengers on the Shorncliffe Line would be one of the biggest beneficiaries of network carrying capacity increases made possible by the delivery of additional New Generation Rollingstock (NGR) units.
“Minister Hinchliffe and I have been working with Minister for Transport and Main Roads Mark Bailey to ensure that the Shorncliffe Line was these improvements have been made at the earliest opportunity and I am sure that commuters will be delighted with the result.
“Some of the services due to double in capacity are peak time trains that are currently crowded or overcrowded, in particular the 6.54am Shorncliffe to Central and 5.58pm Central to Shorncliffe services.
“I know that current users of those services can be required to stand so these upgrades will make a huge difference to the comfort of passengers.”
“This is the result of the significant investments the Palaszczuk Government is making to upgrade the rail network.”
Shorncliffe Line services upgraded to six cars from 3 December are:
6.13 Central to Shorncliffe
6.45 Shorncliffe to Central
17.58 Central to Shorncliffe
18.43 Central to Shorncliffe
18.39 Shorncliffe to Central
19.24 Shorncliffe to Roma Street
